Racist Remarks??
On Monday, the Democrat & Chronicle in Rochester, NY published a story on the long running feud between Monroe County Executive Jack Doyle (R), who is white and Rochester Mayor Bill Johnson (D), who is black. A quote by Doyle in the article has whirled the winds of racial incrimination to Rochester:

ON GOVERNING
“If there was a mayor that looked like me, it would be a whole different landscape. If there was a Republican mayor, there would be no end to it. Do you know what this city needs? It needs a Republican mayor to go in there and clean the bureaucrats out and straighten this city out. This city is disassembling, it’s deteriorating. And I live in the city.”

The accusation was publicized Wednesday evening on the local networks. Reaction and Doyle responds:

"In the current Trent-Lott-like atmospehere, these words send a wrong message to the community," said Democratic county legislator H. Todd Bullard. "His words suggest his preferred political discourse is with those who look like him and think like him."

Doyle accuses the Democrats of "stoking the embers of racial division."

"Any crass political effort, and I underline the word crass, to twist these comments into a racially charged statement is entirely inaccurate," said Doyle, "And can only be explained as partisan politics at its worst."
